The final of the DFB Cup (German: “DFB-Pokal”) 2018/2019 is over.
Once again, the winner is Bayern Munich.
The clubs were once again able to earn a lot of money in the DFB Cup this year. The DFB Cup is particularly attractive for smaller clubs. The revenue potential is large and the share of total sales potentially enormous. As every year, smaller clubs were able to fill their coffers in the DFB Cup season 2019/2020 with the revenues from the DFB Cup. However, this year hardly any underclass clubs made it into Round 2.
Smaller clubs: No major revenue, Out in Round 2
Weiche Felnsburg, Chemie Leipzig, SSV Ulm and SV Rödinghausen. 4 underclass clubs made it to the 2nd round. After all almost 450,000 Euro for the clubs – plus income from gate receipts.
How exactly are the DFB Cup revenues distributed?
The revenues are distributed according to the following key:
In the 1st round 121,000 euros will go to the 24 representatives from the regional associations, 166,000 euros to the other 40 clubs. In 2017/2018 there were 159,000 euros for the first round. At that time, however, the amateur clubs had to give 44,000 euros to the respective DFB regional association. The national association then distributed the money among all participants in its national cup competition.
The second round brought the clubs 332,000 euros, the third round 664,000 euros. In the quarter-finals the clubs will receive 1.328 million euros, in the semi-finals 2.656 million euros.
The winner gets 4.5 million euro, the loser of the final still 3.5 million euro. The winner of the DFB Cup can expect to receive around 13.1 million euros in premiums this year.
By the way, since 2013/2014 there will no longer be any special payments for clubs involved in matches broadcast live on national television.
