Since 1 July 2026 Ligue 1 has taken in €1.35bn while spending only €611.60m. The €735.95m surplus is comfortably the largest of the nine leagues surveyed — and bigger than the Primeira Liga’s entire transfer income.
France as a sellers’ market
Fifteen of eighteen clubs post a positive balance, the highest ratio anywhere in this data set and a clear structural effect: since the collapse of domestic broadcast revenue, player sales have become the central income line for most French clubs.
Paris Saint-Germain lead both sides — €334.30m in income, €152.00m in spending, a balance of +€182.30m. That the country’s wealthiest club is also its largest net seller sets France fundamentally apart from England or Spain.
Strasbourg as the second force
RC Strasbourg record €200.85m in income against €99.40m spent. With 29 arrivals and 25 departures they are by some distance the league’s most active trader — a multi-club model that shows up directly in the balance sheet.
Lille (+€121.90m), Monaco (+€58.00m) and Rennes (+€59.90m) follow the same pattern on a smaller scale.
The three exceptions
Only three clubs finish negative, and one of them heavily: promoted Paris FC invest €79.00m against €6.80m in income — a deficit of €72.20m. Auxerre (−€7.85m) and Le Mans (−€1.00m) operate on an entirely different scale.
Nice are the efficiency outlier: €46.75m in income on just €1.70m of spending, a ratio of 27:1.
